Romania and Ethiopia Open a New Chapter in Bilateral Cooperation

Romania–Ethiopia bilateral cooperation enters a new phase as AASR and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Bucharest (CCIB) host an institutional meeting dedicated to strengthening economic relations, labour dialogue and future investment opportunities. This development aligns with AASR’s mission to support foreign workers and create sustainable bridges between Romania and partner countries.

On 10 December 2025, Romania and Ethiopia will mark an important milestone in their bilateral economic relations.
The Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIB), in partnership with the Association of Foreign Employees in Romania (AASR), is hosting the first Romania–Ethiopia Economic Briefing, an event dedicated to strengthening institutional cooperation and expanding business and investment opportunities between the two countries.

The event takes place in the context of the official visit to Romania of:

  • H.E. Tsegab Kebebew Daka, Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva
  • H.E. Dr. Endegena Abebe Gemta, State Minister, Ministry of Tourism of Ethiopia

Their presence reflects Ethiopia’s growing interest in developing a deeper economic partnership with Romania, based on dialogue, investment opportunities, and sectoral cooperation.

A Strengthened Institutional Framework

In 2025, AASR initiated and developed a structured dialogue with Ethiopian institutions, culminating in the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations (ECCSA).
This agreement establishes a stable cooperation framework for investment, trade, and business development between the two nations.

The Romania–Ethiopia Economic Briefing is the first major institutional event organized under this partnership.

Objectives of the Event

The briefing aims to:

  • present Ethiopia’s recent economic developments and ongoing national reforms;
  • highlight concrete investment opportunities for Romanian companies;
  • open a long-term communication channel between Romanian and Ethiopian institutions;
  • facilitate B2B interactions in key sectors such as:
    • green energy
    • IT & digitalization
    • agriculture and agro-processing
    • textiles and manufacturing
    • pharmaceuticals
    • tourism and regional development

By bringing together policymakers, institutional representatives, investors, companies and the academic environment, the event provides a comprehensive platform for long-term cooperation.

Strategic Importance for Romania

Ethiopia is one of the most dynamic economies in East Africa, undergoing significant macroeconomic and administrative reforms.
For Romanian companies, the Ethiopian market offers:

  • access to a regional hub of over 120 million consumers,
  • opportunities in 12 fully operational industrial parks,
  • government openness toward foreign investment in technology, agriculture and energy,
  • a legislative framework in continuous modernization supported by international institutions.

Romania’s participation in this dialogue is a necessary step toward reconnecting with emerging African markets.

AASR’s Role in Facilitating Bilateral Cooperation

As an organization dedicated to supporting foreign communities in Romania, AASR has expanded in 2025 toward international economic cooperation, acting as a catalyst between Romanian and Ethiopian institutions.

AASR played a key role in:

  • coordinating with CCIB for the organization of the briefing.
  • initiating the official visit,
  • preparing the institutional framework for dialogue,
  • developing the partnership with ECCSA,
